The story behind

We started biking around the age of 5. Everybody did. Girls and boys. We were eager to use our bikes as soon as possible because it meant instant freedom. The freedom to bike with your friends to school or through the park. The freedom to meet friends at the playground or at the local swimming pool.

but it was used only for the longer trips or for our yearly holidays abroad. And whenever possible, the bicycle was preferred over the car. My dad –a car mechanic- went to work by bike his whole life. My mother took her bike for the groceries or bringing the kids to day care. Long before the fancy cargo bikes were re-invented the bicycle was our main means of transport. And it still is. Growing up, I got more and more interested in cycle logistics, eventually resulting in a very instructive apprenticeship at Urbike® Belgium, which determined the rest of my professional career.

The bike lover in me found an amazingly beautiful city with its near perfect cycling climate, its many little roads to discover, its interesting short cuts to try out and its breath-taking sceneries. But I also encountered a different bicycle culture. One that is much more focused on sports rather than transport. People do take the bicycle to bike along the beach, in the city park or off-road in the hills surrounding the city. But I found that only very few used the bicycle as a means of transport.

Why not actively engage in decarbonizing the city? Why not help the local commerce to make the green switch? How to support Porto and its citizens in search of a cleaner city with fresh air to breathe and more space to live? With less trucks blocking the roads every day and less vans parked on the pavements? But would it even make sense to try to compete with the big platforms offering services at dumping prices?

We think there is a way. A better way. A more just, ethical way of doing logistics. Ciclo Logistica Porto stands for professional and reliable logistic services at competitive prices but not at the expense of our staff. We are not a platform; you get in touch with real people who care about your products as if they were their own. Happy couriers at your doorstep. Smiling faces in the street. We don’t support social dumping; we do care about you and your business just as much as we care about ourselves.
